Reinhold and Mieze moving as if on a woodland proscenium, helplessly trying to avoid a violent, practically preordained confrontation. Yes, there are some flaws in the subs ‘owen’ instead of ‘oven’ etc. I encourage fans, who can, to do so as well. Both are led astray by their blind ambitions, and their wives suffer tragic fates in their absence, as Ugetsu evolves into a masterful mixture of brutal wartime realism and haunting ghost story.
He spends a good time with them, even marrying Lady Wakasa and froliking with her in a lover’s paradise, completely forgetting his family.

He also believes that the looming war provides a terrific chance for him to fulfill his desire to succeed as a samurai. As we learn, the tragic irony of Mizoguchi’s life is that he died in sadness and suffering, injust as he was entering a more hopeful and artistically revitalized period of middle age.
